Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or record number entered into a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies any result. Mitchell County Court Docket does not keep or log those entered search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When a visitor sends an email to this organization, the message may be retained so a response can be provided. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Like most websites, this service receives technical information when a page is requested.
- The IP address associated with the connecting device
- Browser type and version
- Device type and operating system
- Viewed pages and time spent on those pages
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Dates and times of page views
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device that can help measure how visitors use a site. Analytics services may aggregate traffic patterns, such as pages viewed or where visits end. A browser can be set to block cookies, although some site functions may then behave differently.
What We Do With This Data
Visitor information may be used for the ordinary operation and improvement of the service.
- Maintain site availability and performance
- Route a requested search to the appropriate partner service
- Understand which pages are useful or need revision
- Identify and repair technical problems
- Serve advertising that may reflect general interests
No Court-Record Data on File
Mitchell County Court Docket does not host, sell, maintain, or compile databases of court dockets or personal case-record information. It provides general routing information about the Mitchell County Clerk of Superior Court, the trial divisions, and Portal. A Portal Register of Actions is a public online access view for eligible records; it is not the official county case file. The clerk is the local custodian of the official file and may provide the appropriate official or certified record channel.
This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or into profiles about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes that may appear on this service. Information entered in one of those tools is governed by the partner’s own privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Those practices are not controlled by Mitchell County Court Docket, so a visitor should review the partner’s policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Mitchell clerk, North Carolina Judicial Branch, Portal, legal-aid resources, or third-party services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination’s privacy policy governs that visit. Read the destination policy before providing personal details.
Advertising partners can track activity across websites to deliver targeted advertisements. Any such tracking is performed through those partners’ systems, rather than by this site.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Information may be disclosed only to the categories of recipients needed for the stated functions or when law requires disclosure.
- Search providers that process a submitted query
- Analytics vendors that measure site traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that place advertisements on pages
- Government or law-enforcement authorities responding to a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures are used to protect data collected by the service. Internet transmission and storage cannot be made completely risk-free, however, and no assurance is made that a security incident will never occur.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If information from a minor is identified, it will be deleted as appropriate.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy or consumer-protection law may provide additional rights depending on a visitor’s residence. North Carolina’s court-record provisions address access to the clerk-held court file, not a promise of a North Carolina private-site privacy statute. For public court material, see G.S. 7A-109, which addresses clerk-maintained records, and G.S. 132-6, which addresses inspection and copies at reasonable times.
Other North Carolina court-record limits remain important. G.S. 1-72.1 provides a court-filing access procedure; G.S. 7B-3000 restricts juvenile-record inspection; and G.S. 132-1.10 addresses protections and redaction requests for specified personal identifiers in public online images. These rules do not expand the data rights stated in this policy.
At a minimum, a visitor may request to:
- Receive a copy of information held about that visitor
- Correct inaccurate information
- Ask that personal information be erased
- Opt out of certain forms of data processing
